Albert Bover is a jazz pianist from Barcelona, Spain, now living in Paris. He has studied classical piano in Barcelona, and in New York with Sophia Rosoff. He has studied jazz with Fred Hersch, Barry Harris, Sal Mosca and Jaki Byard.

He has been playing as a sideman as a professional since 1986 with Al Foster, Art Farmer, Harold Land, Kenny Wheeler, Seamus Blake, Jeff Williams, Philippe Soirat, Arturo Stable, Mark Turner, Eddie Henderson, Sonny Fortune, Jesse Davis, Rick Margitza, Marc Johnson, Jeff Ballard, Guy Lafitte, Ed Thigpen, Oliver Jackson, Ralph Moore, Roy Hargrove, Idris Muhammad, Julian Arguelles y Scott Hamilton.

He has played also with spanish musicians like Jorge Pardo, Perico Sambeat, Chano Dominguez, Javier Colina, Marco Mezquida, Albert Sanz, Giulia Valle and Guillermo Mcgill. He has participated in projects with flamenco musicians like Miguel Poveda and Chicuelo.

He performed in the shows of Shoji Kojima in Tokio, Kurashiki and Okegawa (2000, 2001, 2005). Also he has made a fusion with andalusi music with Driss elMaloumi. He recorded and played in Portugal, Spain and France with Carlos Barretto Quintet. He has participated in almost all the Jazz Festivals in Spain and he has performed a lot as well in Europe, Morocco and South America. Recently he’s been playing in Paris and Montreuil with Gaël Horellou, David Prez, Philippe Soirat, Antoine Paganotti, Viktor Nyberg, Yoni Zelnik, Olivier Robin, Josiah Woodson, Alex Terrier, Fabrizio Nicolas, Jean-Charles Richard, Maxime Fougères, Bruno Rousselet, Raphael Pannier, Duylinh Nguyen, Dominic Lemerle, François Ricard, Nicolas Rageau, Lionel Boccara, Eric Breton, Christian Altehülshorst and Pierre Marcus.

He's got a brand new trio with Yoni Zelnik on bass and Philippe Soirat on drums , and plays too with his former trio with Masa Kamaguchi and David Xirgu. He plays and has recorded recently with the Olivier Robin Quartet. He also plays in different duets with Marco Mezquida, Cristina Vilallonga and Horacio Fumero.

He has recorded as a leader in trio Live in Bilbao, Esmuc blues and Live in Jamboree, in duet with Marco Mezquida, "Live at Sunset", in duet with Cristina Vilallonga “Nus"; in duet with Horacio Fumero and solo piano in Old bottle, new wine. And as a side man in CD´s of Perico Sambeat, Gorka Benitez, Chris Kase, Bruce Arkin, Bob Sands, Xavi Maureta, etc.

He is professor at the Jazz Departments of the Music University of Catalonia (ESMUC) where he teaches Piano, Ensembles and Improvisation. He taught also at Liceu Conservatory (2011-2019)), Musikene (2004-2005) and Taller de Musics. He has taught masterclasses also at Baleaeric Island Conservatori (2022), Liceu Conservatory (2021), ESEM (2021,2022), Valencia Conservatory (2020), (Argentina, Chile (2011), Bucaramanga, Colombia (2017), Conservatory of Paris( 2019), Valenciennes (2018), Lisboa, Garachico, La Laguna (Tenerife), Lugo, Madrid, Cádiz, Malaga, Salamanca.

 

Composer and performer of the soundtrack of the film "Tren de sombras" (1997) and "De una isla" (2019) of José Luis Guerín. He has received Best pianist Award of 2002 of the AMMJ, Altaveu Award for the “Esmuc blues” record and Youth Award of the San Juan Evangelista Cultural Association of Music Jazz, Madrid.

Albert Bover is a "Steinway Artist" since March 2007.
